I’m Jonathan Pincas – originally from London but now living in the small city of Leon in Spain, with my wife Jessica. I am founder and owner of an active UK-based Spanish food importer – The Tapas Lunch Company Ltd – and creator of Spanish Food World, a comprehensive web guide to Spanish food. I’m an unconventional entrepreneur and obsess about the tools and techniques needed for setting up and running a location-independent, flexible and liberating small e-commerce business. I try to share as much of this knowledge as I can on this website. Read more about my business philosophy and how I got started here.
Bio in a Nutshell
Before I started university, I trained as an English (EFL) teacher and spent a year teaching English in London, where I grew up. I continued to teach whilst studying Languages and Linguistics at Cambridge and spent a summer teaching young adults and not-so-young adults at Ceran, in the Belgian Ardenne forest, close to Spa.
After graduating in Linguistics, I moved to Guildford, UK, to study for a Master of Research degree, then PhD, in the areas of acoustic phonetics and speech perception (in the Electrical Engineering Faculty).
After spending my first PhD year in Malaga, Spain, I returned and founded The Tapas Lunch Company (Spanish food import to the UK, wholesale and online retail) with my partner, Jessica, in late 2005. Whilst continuing academic research, I developed the company (and my own entrepreneurial skills) to the point where, in 2008, we were able to move to where we really wanted to be – Spain.
Along the way, I have consulted for a linguistic technology start-up, helped and advised others on setting up businesses and refining business processes, written and published academic articles, implemented ERP software as a Netsuite ASP, started a number of websites, and set up this website to discuss and investigate entrepreneurship, business and new technologies from a variety of angles (read the Say No! to the Office backstory here).
I love travelling, cooking and eating, drinking, partying, photography, rock music, guitar, gadgets and technology.
